Alki for iPhone / Privacy
Privacy policy.
Alki connects to a compatible T1 FIELD rowing device over Bluetooth. It downloads recordings and builds reports on your iPhone without an account.
Stored on your iPhone
Alki stores the device identifier and connection details, raw recordings, location and motion samples from the device, session times, reports, corrections, field notes, speed tables, and the last report email address you used. These files let you view and analyze sessions. The core recording and report flow does not upload them to an Alki account or workout server.
Alki requests Bluetooth access to connect to the device. It does not request your iPhone’s Location permission. Location samples in reports come from the rowing device’s recording.
Optional report email
When you choose Send to email, Alki sends the recipient address, a request identifier, the session date, report metrics and sections, and any field notes included in that report over HTTPS to our email service. A rowing report may include your selected speed table. The original UBX file and full recorded route are not sent with the email request. The address is remembered on your iPhone for future use.
Our Convex backend processes the request and uses Cloudflare Email Sending to deliver the message. To limit sending and avoid duplicates, the backend stores a keyed identifier derived from the recipient address, a fingerprint of the request, its status, and timestamps. It does not store the recipient’s plain email address or report content in those request records. These records currently have no automatic expiration.
The report and delivery information may remain with the recipient and email service after you delete a local session. To ask about or request deletion of service data, contact us. Copies already delivered to a recipient cannot be recalled.
File export and maps
If you choose to share a JSON or UBX file, Alki hands it to the iOS share sheet. The destination you select then handles its copy under its own privacy terms.
When you open a walking report with an online basemap, the map loads MapLibre assets from unpkg and map styles and tiles from OpenFreeMap. Those requests can reveal your IP address and the map area you view. Alki draws your recorded route on your phone; it does not intentionally upload the original recording or full route to those providers. A local route trace remains available if the basemap cannot load.
Software updates
Production builds may contact Expo’s update service to check for and download compatible app updates. This does not upload recordings or reports. Routine network request information may be visible to Expo.
Retention and deletion
Recordings, reports, notes, speed tables, and the remembered email address are stored in the app’s document storage on your iPhone. Depending on your iOS settings, they may also be included in device backups. You can delete individual sessions in Sessions. Removing the app removes its local app data; copies already shared or backed up may remain.
Recordings still on the physical device are separate. Alki clears them only after a verified sync and your explicit confirmation. You can stop future email transfers by not using Send to email.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the app or its services change and show the latest update date here. The current iPhone app does not include an account, advertising, or automatic workout upload.
